Exit, Pursued by a Bear
In these eleven stories, Jacqueline Kolosov gives us the lives of (mostly) women living (mostly) in West Texas, thoughtful, intelligent, artistic women grappling with the joys and disappointments of motherhood and marriage, their longing to be elsewhere, to return to romantic or exotic pasts. These are all women I would like to keep company with, and so I feel honored to know their stories, listen in on their conversations. The writing is as engaging as the characters, elegant but not strained, a perfect braiding of the quotidian dusty world of the present and the dreamlike, idyllic past.
